About the firm
Edmund J. Gegan: a counselor by nature, a litigator by career.
“While I am a natural counselor and advisor who would rather come alongside someone and work with them, I have also been a litigator for all of my career, and my clients value that fierce advocate side of my personality.”
More than twenty five years, two cities, one habit of plain speaking
Edmund is a native of Brooklyn, New York. In his words: “I have practiced law for over twenty five years, starting in 1994 in New York, and then continuing in sunny Tampa, Florida since 2009.” Gegan Law Office is where that experience now goes to work for Tampa families and the businesses they build.
“My favorite moments in my professional life are when I am able to cut through the legal fog for a client and show them how they can save surprising amounts of money, anxiety and trouble by following a particular path.”
The work is organized around that path: a short questionnaire at home, a design meeting, a signing where each document is explained, and, if a business dispute goes that far, the courthouse. See the eleven practice areas to find where your question sits.
How a new client starts
New clients receive a short-form questionnaire to complete before the first consultation, which makes the design meeting more productive. The initial consultation itself is free. Estate planning is done in cooperation with your financial and insurance consultants, so the plan fits the rest of your life and not just the paperwork.
On the business side the posture is just as direct. If it makes more sense to settle a claim quietly than to fight and try to win, the office will tell you so. If a clear victory is your priority, it will fight for you.

The mission
Protect our clients’ businesses from legal threats and litigation, and protect our clients’ families through careful estate planning.
The firm’s tagline, “Protecting Your Success,” is not just a slogan. It is the purpose, and the estate planning half of the practice has its own: Good Parents Worry, Great Parents Plan.

Away from the desk
Edmund lives near Tampa with his wife and son, and has two grown children in New York. He reads, fishes, and watches superhero movies with his son. His family fostered children for about three years: short-term respite care for six children and a longer placement for two. He remains active supporting foster-care organizations.
He sums it up plainly: “I thank God for every opportunity He has given me.” Parents who want to name guardians for their minor children can start with fundamental estate planning.

Once you engage with us for one project, you will become a client for life.
“Throughout the 2 years they stayed in contact with me and when I returned they even maintained their initial quote even though rates had increased since then.”
